Material properties
Good conductivity: Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and its main component, copper, is an excellent conductive material. Brass, although slightly less conductive than pure copper, is still capable of meeting the needs of many electrical connections. Generally speaking, the electrical conductivity of brass is between 23 - 44 MS/m, which allows it to be used as a connector in electronic equipment, electrical wiring and other fields to effectively conduct current and reduce the loss of electrical energy during transmission.
Corrosion resistance: Brass has certain corrosion resistance in atmospheric environments and many chemical media. This is because a dense oxide film will form on the surface of brass, which can prevent the metal inside from being further oxidized. For example, in some mildly corrosive environments, such as indoor environments with normal humidity or air containing a small amount of salt, brass connectors can maintain better appearance and performance and have a longer service life. However, in some strongly acidic or alkaline environments, the corrosion resistance of brass will be affected.
Good workability: Brass has good plasticity and workability. It can be made into various shapes of connectors through a variety of processing methods, such as forging, stamping, cutting, etc. For example, the stamping process can be used to quickly produce a large number of brass connecting pieces with regular shapes. The surface quality of the processed brass connecting pieces is better, and the dimensional accuracy is easier to control.
Moderate mechanical properties: The strength and hardness of brass are between those of pure copper and zinc, and it has certain tensile strength and yield strength. Its tensile strength is generally between 330 - 490MPa, which allows brass connections to maintain structural integrity when subjected to certain tension, pressure and shear forces. At the same time, its toughness is also relatively good, it will not break easily when subjected to a certain degree of impact, and it can adapt to some more complex installation and use environments.
Terminal Blocks: Terminal blocks made of brass are a common form of electrical connection. It is mainly used to connect wires to electrical equipment or circuit boards. In electrical equipment such as distribution boxes and distribution cabinets, brass terminal blocks can easily connect wires of different specifications together and ensure the reliability and conductivity of the connection. For example, in the electrical wiring system of industrial plants, a large number of brass terminal blocks are used to connect wires for motors, lighting equipment, etc.
Pipe connectors: Brass pipe connectors play an important role in plumbing systems and some gas delivery pipes. For example, in home water pipes, brass tees, elbows, and straight heads can connect different copper pipes. Its good corrosion resistance can ensure that the pipeline system will not leak due to corrosion during long-term use. At the same time, the sealing performance of brass pipe connectors is also relatively good. By using appropriate sealing materials, such as rubber sealing rings, the leakage of liquid or gas can be effectively prevented.
Mechanical connectors: Brass can also be used to make various mechanical connection components. For example, in small mechanical devices or precision instruments, brass pins, rivets and other connectors can connect different parts together. While ensuring the strength of the connection, these connectors can also use the conductivity of brass to achieve some special functions. For example, in some instruments with electromagnetic shielding requirements, brass connectors can be used as conductive paths to provide electromagnetic shielding. role.
