Using a grinding wheel to grind gear tooth surfaces can achieve high precision and surface quality, but the processing cost is high and is usually used for processing high-precision gears.

The use of milling cutters to process gears on a milling machine is generally suitable for single-piece small batch production and processing of low-precision gears.
